New Reception Block at West Hartlepool
An article from the 1962 edition of the 'Expamet News'.

On July 6th, Commander J.S. Kerans, M.P. for the Hartlepools, declared open the new reception and office block at an official ceremony attended by the Mayor of West Hartlepool, by guests from local industry and by the Directors and Executives of The Expanded Metal Company. Focal point of the ceremony was the peacock designed by Raoh Schorr. More important are the significance and purpose of the new building.

Significant because of the investment both present and future in local industry which it represents, the new reception block has been designed for the broad purpose of demonstrating to the employees, customers and friends of the company the wide variety of its products and services, their development and application.

Already the building has been used for Board Meetings, training sessions, film shows and two major Sales Conferences, where its splendid facilities have proved to be a tremendous asset.

What are these facilities? Firstly a large reception area on the ground floor for both pedestrian and motor traffic and which has been designed to provide adequate facilities for future development.

On the first floor, an exhibition in which the products and services of the company and their applications are shown in wide variety-a magnificent lecture theatre and two conference rooms.

On the third floor a suite of administrative offices. In due course a complete new block of offices will be built as an extension to the reception block and the present third floor offices are intended to link with this extension.

Throughout the building Expamet products have been widely used for ceilings, plaster work and reinforced concrete and Permalock partitions have been employed to form the suite of offices. Outside, a striking feature of the building are the facing blocks of pre-cast concrete for which a three-inch expanded metal mesh was used as a matrix for the moulds.

In all, architect Reginald Treleaven FRIBA, has designed a building of which both he and the company can be justifiably proud.
