Mr Salmon Retires
An article from the 1972 edition of the 'Expamet News'.
On 30th September 1971 Stranton Works witnessed the largest ever gathering of employees, the occasion of a presentation to Mr H. P. Salmon who retired that day from his executive appointment as Works Director.
This function took place in the new extension of the works on the south side of Greatham Street, just completed and ready for occupation. It was fitting that Mr Salmon should see the completion of this extension since he played a major part in the development of the products going through the new factory.
He joined the Company over 40 years ago to work under his father, the late Mr Harry Salmon, then the Works Director, who invented many of the machines still in existence.
Peter Salmon joined the Army after the outbreak of war and served in the Far East until the end of hostilities when he returned to Hartlepool to continue his work with the Company.
In 1956 Mr Salmon, who had been appointed a director in January 1954, became Works Director and continued as such until 30 th September 1971.
In appreciation of all that he did in his long period at Stranton Works, Mr R. H. Anderson, Group Accountant, on behalf of all employees, presented him with a revolving summer house to be installed in the garden of his new home in Sidmouth. Afterwards a small luncheon party was arranged for Mr Salmon, consisting of representatives from all divisions of the Company.
