We’re delighted to announce that a new welding apprentice has joined The Expanded Metal Company.
Nineteen-year-old Kieran Newton from Peterlee is undertaking Year 2 of his fabrication and welding apprenticeship at our Hartlepool site, after the company he was previously working at sadly closed down.
Kieran is currently studying for a Level 3 Fabrication and Welding apprenticeship with Sunderland College.
Through The Expanded Metal Company, he will gain hands-on, practical experience of welding and fabrication, and have the opportunity to work alongside our specialist welding team on a wide variety of projects.
Our welding team provides specialist additional support to customers and plays a vital role in the production of numerous value-add products.
Kieran Newton said: “It’s been great joining a new team, everyone has been so welcoming. I’m looking forward to finishing my apprenticeship here and becoming a full-time fabricator.”
Philip Astley, managing director of The Expanded Metal Company, said: “We’re proud that we have been able to provide this opportunity to Kieran and that he has been able to continue on his career journey with us.
“We believe it’s vital to nurture and develop the next generation of fabrication specialists and Kieran is joining a number of apprentices, who are training in a variety of disciplines, that we already have on site.
“We look forward to seeing Kieran progress as he gains more skills and experience here at The Expanded Metal Company.”
Earlier this year, we took on a group of six new apprentices, as a direct response to an increased demand for our products. This cohort includes two apprentice tool setters, two engineering technical support apprentices, a welding apprentice and a sales apprentice.
These apprentices are completing their qualifications through East Durham College, where they will continue to attend classes alongside their training at The Expanded Metal Company.
